BERG, William "Billy" III

William “Billy” J. Berg III, of Burlington, CT died suddenly Friday (Nov. 14, 2008) at his home.
Mr. Berg was born August 2, 1947 in Hartford, CT. He was the son of the late William J. Berg Jr. and Mary (O’Hazo) Berg. In 1965 Bill went to Vaughn Barber School in Hartford, CT. After graduating he pursued a career in barbering obtaining a Master Barber License.
He was a Vietnam era veteran from 1969 to 1971. He was trained as a helicopter repairman. After he returned from active duty he returned to barbering until 1975. He then worked for General Motors for several years spending most of his weekends on Martha’s Vineyard. In 1979 he became a permanent resident of Martha’s Vineyard. Billy worked for the County of Dukes County at the Martha’s Vineyard Airport where he was in charge of the fueling operations for 17 years. He was a jack-of-all-trades. If he couldn’t fix it, you might as well throw it away. He loved his family and friends and was always a prankster and loved a good laugh.
His constant companion in his pickup truck was his Golden Retriever, Lucy. You never knew who was driving the pickup. His hobbies included target shooting, puttering around the house and walks with his golden. He was a huge fan of NHRA Racing.
Bill is survived by sister and guardian angel, Donna Berg of Bristol, his best friend, Stan Kucharski of Bristol, his brother, Michael Berg of Sandusky, OH, his goddaughter and niece, Deanna Johnson of Dunedin, FL, his niece, Heather Hine of Coursegold, CA; his great nephews and great niece, Zack Little of Bristol, Sasha Little of Dunedin, FL and Alex Rogers of Coarsegold, CA. and several cousins.
A memorial Mass will be held Saturday 11:00a.m. (Nov. 22, 2008) at the Immaculate Conception Church, Terryville. Military honors will follow at the church. Scott Funeral Home 169 Main St., Terryville is in charge of arrangements.
