ORR, James Byan Sr.

James Byam Orr, Sr. left his earthly bonds Tuesday, November 25 after a courageous battle with heart disease. Jim was born May 31, 1929 in Bristol where he remained a lifelong resident. He was the son of the late Frederick J. and Vera (Byam) Orr.
Jim was the retired Vice-President and General Manager of Bristol Spring Manufacturing Co. in Plainville. He served in the US Air Force for 4 years during the Korean Conflict. Jim was a member of Prospect United Methodist Church where he was an usher for many years and a former trustee. He was a member of the Frederick Franklin Masonic Lodge #14 in Plainville. Jim enjoyed being an amateur radio operator (WA1ECZ) and was a member of the American Amateur Radio Relay League. He loved the outdoors and was a member of the Bristol Fish and Game Club. As Jim approached and entered into retirement, he enjoyed growing roses, and it seems there was always another one appearing in the yard. But, most important in Jim’s life was his love of his family and their love for him.
Jim leaves behind his loving wife of 57 years Ruth G. (O’Brien) Orr, son James B. Orr, Jr., daughter Nancy Jean Scalia and Nancy’s husband John Scalia. He also leaves behind grandchildren Jeffrey, Kimberly and Katy Scalia. Jim was predeceased by his brother Richard and sister Joyce. To all that knew him, Jim earned their greatest respect as a fair, kind, honest and decent man. The phrase that most people used to describe him was “Gentleman”. Jim exited life in the same manner he lived it; with dignity, courage and love. He will be greatly missed by all.Relatives and friends may gather on Friday evening, November 28 from 5 PM to 8 PM at O’Brien Funeral Home, 24 Lincoln Avenue, Bristol, CT; a Masonic service will be held during the wake at 7PM. Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 29 at 10 a.m., at Prospect United Methodist Church, 99 Summer Street, Bristol, CT.  Burial with military honors will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, Bristol, CT.
