CULVER, Gordon James

Gordon James Culver, 78, of Terryville, husband of Doris R. (Lemelin) Culver, died Saturday, Nov. 15, 2008, at Bristol Hospital. Gordon was born in Bristol on Dec. 31, 1929 and was a son of the late Gordon C. and Frances (McDunnah) Culver. He joined the Army National Guard on March 7, 1949, serving in the Korean War and for nearly 40 years before retiring from the service March 6, 1988. A Terryville resident for the past 47 years, he worked at Tyrol Manufacturing before his retirement. He was a member of the Terryville Volunteer Fire Department Co. 3, and VFW Post 572 of Thomaston. In addition to his wife, Gordon is survived by a son, James Culver of Terryville; a daughter and son-in-law, Lori (Culver) D’Amato and Ed Jr. of Bristol; two grandsons, Anthony and Joseph D’Amato of Bristol; a sister, Virginia Kleinschmidt of Forestville; a brother and two sisters-in-law, Robert and Jean Culver of Terryville and Fran Culver of Wolcott; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers, Philip and Charles Culver. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Nov. 19, 2008, at 11 a.m. at Funk Funeral Home, 35 Bellevue Ave., Bristol. Burial, with military honors, will follow in Peacedale Cemetery, Bristol.
