GAGNON, Cyr Simon

Cyr Simon Gagnon, 62, of Terryville, husband of Karen (Mozelak) Gagnon, passed away peacefully, Tuesday, Nov. 4, 2008, with his family by his side. Cyr was born Dec. 29, 1945, in Grand Falls, News Brunswick, Canada. He was the son of the late Bertin Gagnon and Jeannette Cyr and had been a resident of Terryville since 1960. Cyr served in the U.S. Navy aboard the Amphibious Force Flagship, USS Taconic, AGC 17 from 1963 to 1966. In 1967, Cyr went to work for CL&P, where he became a journeyman lineman. He went on to serve as full-time assistant business manager and later business manager/financial secretary of IBEW Local No. 457 representing employees of CL&P, Yangeegas, city of Norwich, town of Wallingford and Connecticut Yankee Atomic Power Plant. Cyr was a dedicated labor leader and activist always putting the interest of the local union membership above all else. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Church of Terryville, Meriden Elks Club and American Legion Plymouth Post No. 20. Cyr enjoyed spending his retirement with family and friends and was an avid lover of politics and history. He is survived by his beloved wife, Karen, of Terryville; his only son, Paul and wife, Laura, of South Windsor; two brothers, Bertin J. Gagnon of Morris and Mark F. Gagnon Sr. of Terryville; two sisters, Louine Gagnon-Rhonemus of Woolwich, Maine and Ann Marie Jones of Satellite Beach, Fla.; his step-mother, Shirley Gagnon of Pequabuck; three godsons, Andrew S. Gagnon of Terryville, Dennis Lavoie of Bristol and David Tino Jr. of Las Vegas, Nev.; and several special nieces and nephews, whom he loved with all his soul. Funeral services will be held Saturday, 10 a.m. at the Immaculate Conception Church, Terryville. A military service will follow the church service. Friends may call at Scott Funeral Home, 169 Main St., Terryville Friday from 5 to 8 p.m.
