ROY, Gerard J.

Gerard J. Roy, 82, of Bristol, widower of Anna (Coletto) Marino Roy, died Wednesday Nov. 12, 2008, at Bristol Hospital. Gerard was born in New Britain on Feb. 13, 1926, and was a son of the late Albert and Anastasia (Boilard) Roy. A longtime Bristol resident, he was a World War II veteran serving in the United States Army in Europe. He participated in the battles of Rhineland and Central Europe and received a Purple Heart medal for wounds received in action Jan. 11, 1945. After his service, he worked at Bristol Brass and also did custodial work for the Bristol Board of Education. He was a member of the Bristol Elks Lodge No. 1010, veterans organizations and St. Anthony Church, Bristol. Gerard is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Karen Roy of Bristol and Janice and Mel Sherr of Southington; two brothers, Adelard “Pete” Roy of Norfolk, Va., and Richard Roy of Bristol; a grandson, Jeffrey Mutter, and his wife, Deborah, of Dover, N.H.; two great grandsons, Dominic and Joseph; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, George Roy. Funeral services will be held Friday, Nov. 14, 2008, at 9 a.m. from Funk Funeral Home, 35 Bellevue Ave., Bristol, to St. Anthony Church, Bristol, for a Mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m. Burial, with military honors, will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, Bristol.
