CONROD, Allen Robert “Bob”

Allen Robert “Bob” Conrod, 76, of Bristol, husband of Shirley (Duprey) Conrod, died on Wednesday (December 3, 2008) at Bristol Hospital. Bob was born in Bristol on August 18, 1932, a son of the late Clarence and Margaret (Finn) Conrod. He resided in Bristol all his life and was employed by the City of Bristol’s Engineering Department for 39 years before retiring in 1993. He was a United States Army veteran of the Korean War serving as a paratrooper with the 82nd Airborne Division, 508th Regimental Combat Team. He was a member of St Gregory Church, where he served as an usher and as treasurer of the Holy Name Society for many years. He contributed to Bristol athletics by umpiring at the Edgewood Little League as well as running the Page Park ski program during the 1970’s and 80’s. In his retirement he enjoyed spending time with family and friends and watching his favorite sports teams (the UCONN Huskies and the Boston Red Sox). In addition to his loving wife, Bob is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Thomas R. and Felicia Conrod of Newtown and Jeffrey A. and Stephanie Conrod of Orange, MA; a daughter and son-in-law, Kathleen and Michael St. Ours of Bristol; three brothers, Ernest and Irving Conrod both of Bristol and Alfred Conrod of Southington; a sister, Iris Conrod of Bristol; five grandchildren, Timothy Conrod, Gwendolyn and Astrid Conrod, and Joseph and Amanda Conrod; his mother-in-law Gilberta Duprey of Bristol and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers, Clarence “Honey” Conrod and John Conrod and two sisters, Doris “Dolly” Lessard and Rose Conrod. Funeral services will be held on Saturday (December 6, 2008) at 10:30 A.M. from Funk Funeral Home 35 Bellevue Ave., Bristol to St. Gregory Church, Bristol for a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30 A.M. Burial with military honors will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, Bristol. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home today (Friday) between 4 and 8 P.M.
