DESJARDINS, Betty (Rioux)


Betty (Rioux) DesJardins, of Wilmington, N.C., formerly of Bristol, widow of Romeo G. DesJardins, died Nov. 23, 2008, in Wilmington, N.C. Betty was born in Grand Falls, New Brunswick, Canada, Feb. 22, 1912, and was a daughter of the late George and Anna (Beaulieu) Rioux. She was raised in Grand Falls and was a longtime Bristol resident, where she worked in the cafeteria at Bristol Eastern High School for 23 years, before retiring in 1982. Betty is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Lydia and Frank Rettich of Bluffton, S.C.; a brother, Bertrand Rioux of Port St. Lucie, Fla.; two sisters, Georgiana Cammarata of Fort Lauderdale, Fla. and Lucienne Poitras of Bristol; six grandchildren, Dr. Peter Massicotte of Boston, Dr. Matthew Massicotte of North Reading, Mass., Dr. Susan Ward of North Reading, Mass., Jacqueline Baird of Glastonbury, Frank Rettich IV of Holbrook, Ariz. and Gregory Rettich of Portland; 11 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a son, Peter Desjardins, and a daughter, June Massicotte. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at St. Gregory Church, Maltby Street, Bristol, Saturday, Dec. 13, 2008, at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, Bristol. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice. Funk Funeral Home, 35 Bellevue Ave., Bristol, is in care of arrangements.
