Mary Elizabeth “Betty” Smith, 81, of Bristol, widow of Charles H. Smith, Sr., passed away on Monday, December 15, 2008, at Bristol Hospital after a brief illness.
She was born April 27, 1927 in Norwich, daughter of the late John F. and Anna (McCarthy) McCarthy. Betty had been a resident of Plainville and Bristol for the past 60 years and was a member of St. Matthew Church in Forestville.
She is survived by her children, Patty Patterson and her husband, Donald of Forestville and Charles H. Smith, Jr. and his wife, Tamam of Bedford, NH; her grandchildren, Tricia Patterson, Michael Patterson and his wife, Carrie, Matthew Patterson and his wife, Melissa, Patrick Patterson, Courtney Roberts, and Katina Smith; her great grandchildren, Abigail Patterson, Meaghan Patterson, Kate Patterson, and Michael John Patterson; her sisters-in-law, Eva Smith and Arlene McCarthy; several nieces, nephews, and a large extended Patterson family.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, December 18, 2008, at 9:00 am. from the O’Brien Funeral Home, 24 Lincoln Ave., Forestville, to St. Matthew Church, Forestville, for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am. Burial will be held at the convenience of the family. Calling hours will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Matthew School, Welch Dr., Forestville, CT 06010
