KERR, Walter P.

Walter P. Kerr, 83, of Forestville, beloved husband of Mary Jane (Deslauriers) Kerr, died on Tuesday (December 9, 2008) at Bristol Hospital surrounded by his family. Walter was born in Bristol on August 2, 1925 and was a son of the late William P. Kerr St. and Victoria (Wojtusik) Kerr. A lifelong Bristol resident, he graduated from New Britain Technical School before joining the family business. He began his career as a wood working mastercraftsman and general contractor with W. P. Kerr and Sons Building Company with his father and brother. Then for 53 years he owned and operated Bristol Cabinet Works in Forestville, a business known for quality woodworking and cabinetry. He was a civic minded person who enjoyed socializing with his many friends from all spectrums of life and he loved his family above all else. He was an active outdoor sportsman who loved to fish and especially to hunt. He was always quick with a joke and a smile and will be missed by many. He was a member of St. Matthew Church, Forestville. In addition to his wife, Walter is survived by a son and daughter in law, Jeffrey M. and Lucille Kerr of Plymouth; a daughter and son in law, Suzan M. and Michael Doolittle of Bristol; three grandchildren, Melissa L. Doolittle, and Christopher R. and Robert S. Kerr; a great grandson, Timothy J. Migliore-Doolittle; one niece and five nephews. He was predeceased by a son, Brian T. Kerr and his brother, William P. Kerr Jr. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday (December 16, 2008) at 9 AM from Funk Funeral Home, 35 Bellevue Ave., Bristol, to St. Matthew Church for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 AM. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, Bristol. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home on Monday between 5 and 7 PM.
