FLANIGAN, Rita C. Rita C. Flanigan, LTC (USAF, ret.), of Unionville, died Wednesday, (December 3, 2008) at St. Francis Hospital and Medical Center after a brief illness. Born in Hartford, July 28, 1926, daughter of the late Edward J. and Catherine (Foley) Flanigan. She was a graduate of Mt. St. Joseph Academy, Kings County School of Nursing and Holy Apostles College. Rita continued her career in nursing in the U.S. Air Force until her retirement in 1983. In addition to serving in the Korean War and the Vietnam War, her tours of duty took her to all parts of the world. She was a communicant at the Church of St. Mary Star of the Sea in Unionville. She served her God well and her family as a friend and confidante. Rita is survived by her brothers and sisters, James and Angeline Flanigan of Wethersfield, William and Sylvia Flanigan of Bristol, Joan and Mitchell Urbanowicz of Bristol, John and Beverly Flanigan of Port Orange, FL, Noreen and Claus Propfe of Torrington and Kathleen Hull of Unionville as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother, Edward T. Flanigan. Friends may call at The Ahern Funeral Home, 111 Main St., Rt. 4, Unionville on Tuesday, December 9, from 9:30 a.m.-11:30 a.m. Funeral procession from The Ahern Funeral Home will be at 11:30 a.m. followed by the Funeral Liturgy in the Church of St. Mary Star of the Sea, Unionville at 12 Noon. Burial with full Military Honors will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Avon. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Office of Radio and Television of the Archdiocese of Hartford, 15 Peach Orchard Road, Prospect, CT 06712 or to Foodshare, 450 Woodland Ave., Bloomfield, CT 06002.
